MEET YOUR GUIDE

Kevin Stone
Founder and Experienced Maine Guide
United States Coast Guard Licensed Captain

I started fishing with a fly rod at a very young age using a 5/6 wt L.L. Bean Graphite rod. After a few perch and bass, I was hooked. Years went by and I learned how to tie my first fly somewhere around the age of 12. That’s when I moved onto fishing for stripers with my father and great uncle in Portland’s Presumpscot river. I have always loved everything about being on the water and nothing stopped me from pursuing big fish in heavy currents.  I learned everything from my father who still fishes with me every weekend.

I took my passion for fly fishing and carried it with me into my hunting career, which was the most fun I could have when not fishing. From chasing ducks and geese, to upland birds, deer, turkey and coyotes, I never sat still. In 2007, I moved out to Alaska to fly fish and became a guide for rainbow trout and salmon. At the end of the 2008 season, I came back to my roots here in Maine and focused all my energy on becoming a great outdoorsman.

Old Oak Outfitters is the outcome of all that time, money and effort. Built on pride, passion and a love of the outdoors, I have enough experience that I don’t get caught up in the fads of the outdoor world, and I am going to work hard o get you on the fish and game we pursue.  At the end of the day, my number one goal is to keep you safe and to make sure we have a great time so you will be back next season to enjoy more time in the Maine woods and all it has to offer.

Mabel
GSP, Hunting Machine

Mabel is a prime example of a dog that has one thing on her mind: working hard to find birds and make hunters happy. She works like no other when it comes to partridge (grouse) in the softwoods, woodcock in the hemlocks and alders, and ducks in the swamps. A sweet female, she hit her prime at the age of 4.5 where she would work close and fast, and could run all day long. She is the foundation of my bird hunting and I can only hope that all my bird dogs are half as good as she is!
